Photo Favorites

23 Oct

Photos taken by me during my recent trip to New Orleans. I have travelled a few places in the south since moving to this side of the world but nothing has ever given me the nostalgia of being in New Orleans. The people carry their culture, their history and their traditions on their sleeves, there is not a hurricane strong enough to take that away. My time on New Orleans was short but beautiful. And the rain…the rain could drown you!

Lyric Love

23 Oct

This weeks Lyric Love belongs to Stevie Wonder. Great music has one thing in common, it crosses all boundaries. Stevie Wonder is one of the most talented musicians that has ever lived and has blessed us for years with song after song that can’t be compared to his last. As a serious Stevie Wonder  fan I thought I had heard every one of his songs until my late aunt Myra played the song “Visions” while sitting in her living room. I was immediately attracted to the songs harp and the story he told about an untouchable place, this song is quintessential Stevie Wonder. Today makes a year since my aunt died and it never fails that I feel her spirit whenever this song is played. Shortly after she died I received a hand written letter from her and the only thing making the words on that piece of paper palatable was this song. Read on…

“Visions”

People hand in hand
Have I lived to see the milk and honey land ?
Where hate’s a dream and love forever stands
Or is this a vision in my mind ?

The law was never passed
But somehow all men feel they’re truly free at last
Have we really gone this far through space and time
Or is this a vision in my mind ?

I’m not one who makes believe
I know that leaves are green
They only change to brown when autumn comes around
I know just what I say
Today’s not yesterday
And all things have an ending

But what I’d like to know
Is could a place like this exist so beautiful
Or do we have to find our wings and fly away
To the vision in our mind ?

I’m not one who makes believes
I know that leaves are green
They only change to brown when autumn comes around

I know just what I say
Today’s not yesterday
And all things have an ending

But what I’d like to know
Is could a place like this exist so beautiful
Or do we have to take our wings and fly away
To the vision in our minds ?

Who Wears The Pants?

21 Oct

Jada Pinkett Smith does! Jada and her family have been spending much time in the big apple promoting the youngest Smith’s new single, “Whip My Hair”. It is clear where Willow Smith gets her bold taste, her mother has impeccable style. Seen walking the streets of New York with head to ankle Chloe and Christian Louboutin pumps she looked perfectly perfect in a stylish fall look. After months of super skinny jeans and leggings (I refuse to use the term jegging) wide leg pants have come back in a big way. The tweed pants Jada was wearing were extremely flattering on her small frame and made her stand 10 feet tall. If you are petite a wide leg trouser will instantly make you appear taller and slimmer.

Welcome Back!

21 Oct

That is more of a welcome back from you to me because I have been M.I.A with my writing. I have been so caught up with work, relationships, travel and the million and one other things I like to pretend I am involved in. Even though I like to make myself a busy bee, the online radio show I will soon be a permanent fixture on is in the works. I am so excited to be given the opportunity to work with my Detroit brotha from another motha Guy Anthony. You can check it out on November 1st at 12am at http://www.GASupradio.com or you can follow the show on twitter @GASuponline
